Metazen

Metazen is a daily, online fiction and poetry magazine that focuses on meta-fictional writing. Stories are often written with a self-consciousness of the literary form. Metazen also publishes pieces with an existential or absurdist slant. Most stories feature elements of surrealism or magical-realism.

Metazen is edited by Frank Hinton, Jessica Alchesse, and Dylan Cohen. The site was founded in March 2009.

During the site's infancy, most of the stories published were written by Frank Hinton. In keeping with the traditions and tenants of meta-fiction, Frank continues to publish fictional and non-fictional stories on the site featuring himself and his girlfriend Lili as main characters. Other characters also play recurring roles in his stories. Frank often writes about his therapist Bradbury and his manager Joshua.

The website hosts fictional interviews, fake fan letters, untrue complaints toward metazen as well as a number of literary loopholes that aim to distort the reader.
